Sam Wyly to Speak at Northwood University’s Founder's Day Celebration

Northwood University
March 18, 2010

Dallas-based billionaire and author Sam Wyly will speak at Northwood University March 31, during a Founder’s Day Celebration that commemorates the 50 years Northwood has spent molding entrepreneurs. The festivities begin at 11 a.m. in the Hopkins Building as Wyly is joined by Dennis McCuistion, host of The McCuistion Program on PBS. McCuistion will serve as moderator for the in-the-round style event.

Texas Campus Provost Dr. Fegan says Mr. Wyly’s ethical standards and entrepreneurial passion closely align with Northwood’s.

“As we look to the next 50 years, we want to continue underscoring the advantages of an entrepreneurial, free-enterprise society to Northwood’s students,” says Fegan. “Much like Mr. Wyly, we firmly believe that competitive, productive effort should always be partnered with sound ethics and values.”

Wyly writes in his book, “1,000 and an Idea,” that you can’t breach your core values – in business or in life. If you do, no amount of so-called success will matter, because it’s the quality of the journey in life that really matters, not the destination.

“I’m a strong believer in instinctual intelligence, the unquantifiable kind. Finding success – in business, in family, in life – comes from somewhere deep inside,” Wyly writes. “You have to work hard, apply yourself fully, do your homework diligently, but you also have to be true to your interests, your ethics, your ideas, your desires and your passions. You can’t breach your core values or your overriding bliss, that deep sense of who you are.”
