Sam founded Green Mountain Energy (www.greenmountain.com) in 1997. The family's involvement in environmental activism began at this time, as Sam took a personal interest in discovering how the environment was being maintained for future generations. The company developed a mission to provide clean alternative power — a mission that now resonates with hundreds of thousands of customers nationwide. Sam remains committed to the company's mission. An important part of that mission is promoting environmentally-friendly activities through carbon offsets.

Green Mountain is America’s largest retail provider of cleaner energy to residential and commercial customers. It also plays an important role in environmental education, sponsoring workshops, lectures and lobbying reform aimed at preserving and protecting the world around us.
