Sam Wyly Offers Westwood Students Unique Opportunity Park Cities People January 8, 2010 Middle and high school students at the Westwood School welcomed Highland Park resident and self-made billionaire Sam Wyly last month for an informal discussion of his memoir, 1,000 Dollars and an Idea. Along with other members of the Westwood community, students recently read Wyly's book and were presented with the unique opportunity to ask the author questions relating to entrepreneurism, green energy, and careers in writing and business. In answering student inquiries, Wyly recounted stories about establishing and growing leading companies and his commitment to green energy for the future. Wyly cited the influence of his Sunday school teacher, football coach, and high school literature teacher, adding that he was "blessed to have a family with a positive attitude" that also contributed to his success. When asked what inspired him to write a book, Wyly responded, "I read all the time; I always did. I wrote annual reports and it eventually led to writing a book."
